Cinergy: Affordable Health Insurance Options
The rising cost of healthcare and health insurance changed the way the many insurance companies have to do business. One of the insurance companies who recognized the need for change before many other insurance companies was the Cinergy Health Insurance Company. Cinergy is a health insurance company that claims a desire to provide affordable health care benefits to people of any financial level. Offering this kind of service makes it possible for people from all walks of life to see their doctors when they need to without fear of what it is going to cost.
Cinergy Health Insurance Plans
Cinergy Health offers two types of plans for their customers, Cinergy Health Preferred 500 and Cinergy Health Preferred 1000. As you have probably inferred, Cinergy Health Preferred 1000 offers higher rates of coverage than does Cinergy Health Preferred 500, which gives you more flexibility when choosing what doctor to see and what services to receive.
While each plan offers different levels of cost coverage, both do offer the same coverage in terms of what kind of services you can receive. Some of these services include doctor’s visits, hospital stays, physicals, surgery, critical care, labs and x-rays, accidents, pregnancy, and more. Cinergy also offers discount prescription and dental coverage at no additional cost.
The reason that Cinergy Health can offer such affordable insurance rates is because they do not offer major medical benefit packages. Instead, Cinergy Health offers their clients’ limited medical benefit plans to help keep their costs down.
Limited medical benefit plans are insurance plans that only provide coverage for common medical care. Common medical care includes things such as physicals, doctor’s visits, emergency room visits, immunizations, etc. While you will receive care under your plan if you have to be admitted to the hospital, for example, the coverage will be limited and will max out in a short amount of time. If you are diagnosed with a major medical condition, such as cancer, heart disease, etc. the maximum medical benefit is $1,000. As you can see, while Cinergy health plans can help you with your basic needs, it is not ideal for comprehensive care.
Both Cinergy health plans offer the same amount of death and dismemberment coverage and accident medical benefits. The coverage for death and dismemberment (which is included in the standard premiums) is 15,000. $5,000 is provided towards accident benefits. Accident medical benefits are the only service under the Cinergy Health plans that have a deductible requirement. Even so, the deductible is very low and easily affordable for most people.
Cinergy Health Insurance Benefits
One of the biggest positive qualities of a Cinergy health care plan is that you can visit any physician that you choose. You are not limited by a network, which means that if you have a doctor that you love, then you can continue to see him or her.
The downside is, however, that you may have to pay for your medical care up-front and then receive reimbursement from Cinergy, something that is not necessarily affordable to everyone. You doctor’s office manager can best tell you if they are willing to bill Cinergy directly or if you have to request reimbursement.
Another thing that Cinergy offers that many other health insurance companies do not is that everyone who applies, regardless of their medical history, will not be refused health insurance. The rates for any person enrolled before the age of 65 will be the same as well, so a 59-year-old many will not have to pay more than a 29-year-old man. This makes Cinergy very affordable to the young and old alike.
Cinergy Life Insurance/Critical Illness Insurance
Cinergy is not only limited by to health care coverage, they also offer critical health insurance and life insurance as well (at an additional cost to their standard plans). This makes it easier for those who wish to purchase their health insurance from Cinergy to combine all of their insurance needs into one package. You may want to inquire about discounts from getting multiple policies with this, or any other, provider. It’s often a great way to make insurance more affordable.
Critical illness insurance provides one time benefit payouts if you are diagnosed with certain medical conditions. What is nice about this coverage is that you are not obligated to use it towards your medical care. If you qualify for these benefits, then you can use the money for whatever you choose from paying household bills to buying something you want for your home. You choose, because it becomes your money.
Cinergy offers term life insurance at affordable rates as well with a range of $10,000 – $300,000. Depending on your age, you can carry a term life policy for up to 30 years. In addition, if you do not need to collect on your insurance policy during that time, Cinergy offers a conversion policy that allows you to covert your term policy into a whole life policy and credits a percentage of your term-life payments to your new policy.

“I obtained Insurance through Cinergy Health Short Term Medical Insurance on Feb. 12, 2010. The policy was a six-month policy and the agent told me that I would have a $500 deductible. After satisfying this deductible, my policy would then go into a co-insurance period.
During this time my insurance company was supposed to pay 80% until I reached $1,000 out of pocket. After this, all eligible expenses were to be covered at 100%. I renewed my policy on August 12, 2010, and was assured that it was the same policy and coverage.
I had an emergency appendectomy on Sept 17, 2010. I started receiving bills for thousands of dollars. When I called Cinergy I was given the runaround. I spoke to various people who wouldn’t take responsibility for the error. I was told various times that someone would be calling me back and no one ever returned my calls.
Eventually, after numerous attempts on my part, I got a hold of someone who told me that the reason I was receiving these bills was that during my co-insurance period I was actually responsible for $5,000 out of pocket. This was $4,000 more than they told me I would be responsible for when they sold me the policy!!
At this point, I argued with the company and was assured that my problems would be forwarded onto a supervisor who would review my case, including the recording of the original phone call when I bought the policy. They have never gotten back to me.
It is currently March – I started the process of calling them in November. Eventually, I reported them to the Ohio Board of Insurance and they called to let me know that they are requesting payment from Cinergy because they got a hold of the recorded conversation and they believe that I am correct.
Since all of this, they have also denied two different claims saying that my coverage had been terminated on the dates of service – which it definitely had not been. One of these was for my son’s well child check up, the other was the surgeon’s bill for my appendectomy – both medically necessary claims. I called them out on these claims and they are supposedly reprocessing them. Then yesterday I open yet another bill for my surgery for another $1,914.
This company has not provided me with the coverage that they sold me and has denied one claim after another. When I call their customer service department, I cannot get a straight answer out of anyone and they keep me on they phone forever transferring me from person to person. They have never returned my calls in a timely fashion.
This is the worst experience with insurance I have ever had. I highly recommend that NO ONE out there purchase insurance through Cinergy.”
“I tried this limited type health insurance for a year and was very dissatisfied. The people you talk to on the phone were unprofessional and did not what was going on most of the time. When I submitted a claim they kept given me the runaround and stalled me for 6 months.
I finally had to get the state insurance investigator to have them respond back to me. Stay away from Cinergy and find another you will be better off ahead and less headaches.”
