Beech Street Health Insurance Company

Beech Street Health Insurance Company is commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as Beach Street Health Insurance Company, most likely because the company was started in San Diego, California back in 1951. Since then it has grown from servicing the residents of Southern California to providing networks nationwide.

Beech (or Beach) Street Health Insurance is not an actual health insurance provider, but rather a network provider operating as Beech Street under the Viant network. Viant was founded in 2007 as an off-shoot of Concentras, which was originally called Preferred Payment Systems. It currently boasts over seven hundred clients and sixteen million members.

Beech Street Network Services

Beech Street is one of the largest Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network providers with over 560,000 practitioners, 5,000 hospitals, 85,000 specialty care facilities, and 52,000 facility locations. There are three service plans available that are comprised of these network providers. The primary plan is the Beech Street Primary Health Benefit Network in which patients choose doctors from within the network to receive plan benefit coverage. Patients can access a directory to confirm that their provider is a participant.

For patients who choose doctors that are not part of the primary network, there is the Beech Street Complementary Network. The benefits applied through this network can be either in-network or out-of-network depending on the patient’s plan. Here, too, patients are provided with a directory of provider participants. The third service plan is the out-of-network plan called Beech Street Supplemental Network.

Initially established as a Third Party Administrator (TPA) for Workers’ Compensation, Beech Street continues to offer Workers’ Compensation with a network of over 15,000 hospitals and specialty treatment facilities and 273,000 specialty and primary care physicians. Auto Medical is another option provided by Beech Street. Auto medical insurance is no fault insurance that covers the insured and all of the passengers in the insured’s vehicle regardless of who was at fault for the accident. Any immediate treatments that are required as a result of the car accident will typically be covered. A provider directory helps patients verify their provider’s participation.

Beech Street Affiliations

Several affiliations help expand Beech Streets services and programs. Partnership with the Allianz LifeTrac Transplant Network gives members access to over forty facilities that lead the way in organ and bone marrow transplants. Landacorp’s partnership with Beech Street brings disease management strategy to its members through the Managing for Tomorrow® programs, which put members in control of their own health through education and empowerment.

Further affiliations also include charitable organizations such as the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center, to which Beech Street routinely contributes time and monetary resources. Additionally, even though this organization employs more than five hundred people, they consider themselves a family. The Beech Street Family Fund is the company’s way of providing additional monetary rewards to employees in need. Starting out with company donations of cash, the Family Fund has since grown to fundraising events sponsored by the employees throughout the year. The company then matches the money and confidentially gives it to employees that are chosen through coworker nomination.

Beech Street is also affiliated with several industry companies. Health Access America (HAA) is an organization that helps educate the public about health insurance and provides networking opportunities for individuals to find providers, both public and private. The American Association of Preferred Provider Organizations (AAPPO) is the national association of PPOs with a focus on educating the public about the benefits of a PPO for an individual’s health care. The AAPPO Academy is an online education system that offers health care courses and exams for industry professionals. Beech Street also has an affiliation with a technology company called GTESS and was actually one of their first clients. GTESS is a custom software manufacturer that helps to integrate and expedite insurance claims.

Beech Street Vision, Mission, & Values

The Beech Street vision, mission, & values is a strong commitment to do what is right for both patients, health care providers, and the community as a whole.

Beech Street Network Insurance Coverage Area

Although the number of providers and facilities in the network varies from state to state, providers are available in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Beech Street believes that their contribution to health care is to provide comprehensive services while lowering the cost of healthcare. Part of how they accomplish this is through their massive network. Individuals that prefer PPOs tend to do so due to the larger network that PPOs provide while still allowing the option of going out of the network if a patient so chooses.

Although going out of the network is frequently at a much higher cost to the patient, the option is there if one needs it. PPO rates vary by plan, usually charging a lower premium for a higher deductible. This allows for flexibility in choosing a plan that not only meets your medical needs, but your financial needs as well.

“Can anyone find a Beechstreet preferred provider Medical Doctor or Hospital in Maine?????? Check the Beechstreet site and help me out here. I cannot find one, not even one in all of Maine.

There are several listings but none for medical doctors, or hospitals in all of the State of Maine.

It has not been a pleasant journey going from Blue Cross to Beechstreet; however, maybe that will change.

I have gotten no help what-so-ever from Beechstreet Insurance yet, but trust that will Change. Would like to have the Gov. Change back to Blue Cross, but who can afford them. I do not think President Obama’s health care will even help out unless it forces States to allow out of state insurers, and places cost controls on premiums and medical costs.

What is your experience with that company???”

“I just talked with a sales person about Beech 3PP Network and really felt that it was a scam – especially when they told me that a $200,000 life insurance was included, among other things. All for $241/mth. I told the guy it sounded like a scam at which point he got very nasty.

I talked with someone at BlueCross and asked them about Beech 3PP Network. He said they have about 5 doctors signed up in Minnesota and “”you get what you pay for””.

It’s a big scam, don’t waste your money on them, cuz you’ll never find a doctor in your area, if anywhere. I gave it a one cuz it wouldn’t let me do a ZEROS.”

“So, I get a call after filling out an application with Blue Cross who I am covered under, I was looking into a conversion plan, this call was from Beech Street with my quote? They told me that they received my application from Blue Cross, something BC does regularly when they can’t meet your needs. ‘Can’t meet my needs’ I thought, wow, they have been covering me for 10+ years and I am a very healthy person, why couldn’t they meet my needs now I thought.

Refusing to fall for this, I called blue Cross asking if they forwarded my application to Beech Street. Blue Cross not only said they never forward applications but they never heard of Beech Street. So wow – these people really have quite a scam going. Trying to secure me on their plans basing everything on lies, lies, lies. Despicable!!!

Trying to scam people on their health is insane! This sales woman did everything on the planet to lock me in and not let me off the phone to look into things further. Despicable! Anyone really determined to throw their money away, you can contact me instead of Beech Street, I’ll put it to good use 🙂

The 1 star is because I had to, so we’ll call it for effort. Otherwise, negative stars deserved!”

“In 2002, after what seemed an eternity, I was finally authorized to have surgery to repair my esophagus. It was to be a 23-hour stay. I was at that time a Healthy 38 y/o. During the procedure, a complication arose and I coded( cardiac arrest) I spent 7 days in ICU and another 6 days in the hospital.

Get This, Beech Street DENIED the bill from the hospital BECAUSE the hospital stay in ICU and Stay were NOT pre Authorized!!!!!! I spent 18 months and countless hours and hundreds of dollars fighting this. They eventually paid or were going to have to face off with me in court. But the damage was done and my credit was ruined.

RUN FROM THESE CROOKS AS FAST AS YOU CAN”

“A very poor company in terms of coverage, and even being reliable. I would suggest that it’s actions border on criminal behavior.

DO NOT seek coverage from them at all. They do not answer requests for appeals and one is unable to find someone to speak to of a higher authority.

As I now face a $6,000 bill that should have been honored by Beech Street, I am preparing to file a criminal complaint with the State of Georgia Insurance Commission against the company and its officers who I now consider to be running a criminal enterprise.

    Avoid the entire VIANT Network.”

    “Beech Street is terrible.

Their network of providers is, by their own admission, months or years out of date. Reaching a human being through customer service is nearly impossible – 9 times out of 10 the voicemail system justs keeps routing you back to the beginning so you can never reach someone. Email responses refer you to the telephone numbers.

If you have any choice at all, even if it costs more, go with another provider.”

“I was referred to Beech Street (a Viant Company) by a phone call from a representative at Wells Fargo Bank promoting a health discount plan. I took their word that it was a good plan, and when I called 2 OR 3 providers, they could not tell me what the discount would be and said to call Beech Street.

To be short, I found it all confusing and just cancelled the plan. Has anyone used this plan? The health discount plan is provided by Coverdale, a separate company not affiliated with Wells Fargo Bank, and Wells Fargo is not responsible for the benefits promised or provided. It seems like a scam to me.”

“They recently presented themselves to my nephew as an insurance solution to someone who had nothing. After going through the presentation, signing the paperwork necessary, he received nothing. He submitted numerous claims, only to be told to do it a different way. When re-submitting, he was then re-directed.

After 5 months of payments, he received nothing for medical reimbursement and had to block their services. They have absolutely NO customer service.

At this time, I am actually turning them into the Better Business Bureau. My nephew is 22 and lost his job do to the economy, and then a company like THIS finds him.”

I am shopping for new health insurance and was contacted by this VERY aggressive and annoying rep who would not let me get off the phone and told me that this insurance was the insurer of last resort. They had unusually and exceptionally low premiums, and I had never even heard of this company.

Insurance companies don’t want to pay your doctors and hospitals. As a matter of fact, they pay less for the same medical procedures you may have had a few years ago. Beech Street may be the worst insurance company there is. Do not buy this product.”

I ended up having to have surgery and found out the hard way just what this “”insurance”” really is.

My question is that since this really isn’t insurance in the first place shouldn’t I have the option to drop it and move on to something that actually provides me with coverage? This place should really be illegal.”
